Damn, I have been slack lately!

Well, it’s been almost a whole week since the last update, so I best do an update. I have been very busy this week, and have been online very rarely over the past week.

Let’s start with Tuesday then, I had work as normal during the day, and nothing really happened worth mentioning, so I wont bother. In the evening I was asked to come to an Open Mic night at Voodoo Lounge run by a friend of mine to help sort out the sound. Upon arriving I was greeted by a rather poor PA system to say the least. What looked like two guitar cab(inets), with a multi input amplifer/head, and a four channel mixer, of which the first channel didn’t work, so that left three channels usable, and none of the balance or tone controls worked. In the end I turned the bass down and boosted the treble on the amp, as it was distorting, despite not being that loud. Within an hour I managed to get a decent enough sound coming out, but not what I am used to really, but I did what I could with the equipment available. Of course being in a pub, I had to have a few drinks, which led to a few more, which lead to me getting involved in some birthday celebrations, and going onto another pub, namely the Scholar. Although I only had two pints there, well actually one and half, as I didn’t finish the last one, as I wasn’t feeling too good, really shouldn’t have been drinking while recovering from flu. I made my way home and went straight to bed. In the morning I wasn’t feeling good at all, I had a combination of a hangover and the remnants of flu, which wasn’t nice at all, so spent most of the day in bed, and in the evening I decided out of the blue to do a redesign of the Phoenix Live website as the old site is looking dated now, although I didn’t get too far with it, between feeling ill and being too damn fussy about the way the site should look, in fact it is now Sunday and I still haven’t come up with something I like 100% yet, something that my close friends wont be surprised about!

The rest of the week was a combination of work and covering Phoenix gigs, still not feeling the best, but I have been slack with Phoenix Live as well, so I thought I best do some updates. But I have decided to call it a day on reviewing gigs, as I no longer feel any passion for writing reviews, and would rather not write than write sub-standard reviews. I have put out some feelers for reliable reviewers, and there could possibly be another photographer coming onboard the Phoenix Live team, but that’s all speculation at the moment. I have been cutting down on my drinking as well now, limiting myself to three pints per night, I am fed up with feeling like shit the day after, especially when I have to work, and of course the cost is a big factor as well, here’s to being sensible!?!…

In football, things are starting to look up for Plymouth Argyle, finally managing to secure their first victory of the year over Sheffield United, beating The Blades 3 – 0 with goals from Graham Coughlan, Paul Wotton and Dexter Blackstock, although Sheffield were unlucky to lose their goal keeper to injury being replaced by midfielder, Phil Jagielka, but of course I am not complaining, it’s about time a bit of luck went Argyle’s way! And on Saturday, Plymouth managed yet another 3 – 0 victory over Crewe Alexandra. And for the first time this year, Plymouth looked like the quality team that they are on paper, The Plymouth goals came from skipper, Paul Wotton on 25 minutes, followed by another from Dexter Blackstock in the 68th minute, and Scott Taylor sealed the victory in the 90th minute. The Pilgrims have leapfrogged both Coventry and Cardiff, now sitting in 19th position, four points ahead of Cardiff and seven points off the drop zone. Hopefully Argyle can continue this spell of good form to climb to a mid table position by the end of the season. Bobby Williamson has been given a reprieve for the time being, although I still think that he isn’t the right man for the Argyle job, but for the time being I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Guess next season will be the crunch season for Argyle and Williamson, assuming Plymouth stay up this season, fingers crossed!?!

Well, that’s about it for now, back to redesigning the Phoenix Live website.
