Brilliant away win and clean sheet for the Pilgrims!

After three draws, one loss and one postponement since their last win against Burton Albion back in mid January, Plymouth Argyle hit back with their best result of the season, beating Accrington Stanley 0 – 4 at The Crown Ground. Which is a massive result for the Pilgrims, for two reasons, (1) it’s a big morale booster for the team and (2) lifts Argyle three points above the bottom two, although Dagenham & Redbridge and Northampton have one and two games in hand respectively.

On loan striker Alex MacDonald hit two goals for Argyle in the first half, one in the third minute and another in the 24th minute. The first coming after some neat interplay between MacDonald and Nick Chadwick and the second, the Burnley loan striker pounced after the Accrington keeper, Ian Dunbavin could only parry Chadwick’s shot. I really hope that some sort of deal to keep MacDonald at the club to at least the end of the season can be done as I think the Scottish International allied with Chadwick will be the key to remaining a Football League club in 2012/13!

Darren Purse headed a third goal in the 72nd minute from returning Argyle stalwart Paul Wotton’s free kick and Luke Daley wrapped up the game with a low drive from the edge of the penalty area in second half added time. Argyle have moved upto 21st in the league, level on points with Hereford United but ahead on goal difference thanks to the four goals scored today.

It’s nice to see Romain Larrieu back between the sticks, and even better, he kept a clean sheet as well, maybe we’ll see the Frenchman keeping goal in the future? I think it’s a waste of a good keeper having him sat alongside manager Carl Fletcher warming his ass cheeks on the bench.
