RCA DSB772WE Streaming Media Player & Walmart Stores

I went to Walmart tonight because I couldn’t sleep looking for a cheap device that will allow us to watch Hulu Plus in the bedroom, we already have a Bluray player that works with Netflix but no option for Hulu Plus. I looked at a number of devices, some did Hulu Plus, other’s didn’t then I saw the RCA DSB772WE streaming media player on sale for $48, which looked like the cheap solution I required and I already own a RCA TV which has performed flawlessly for over three years.

But I was wrong, I connected the HDMI cable, power cable, put the batteries in the remote and powered the unit on. So far so good, I logged into Netflix, Hulu Plus and Pandora, still all good, then it all went wrong, I started watching an episode of Hell’s Kitchen on Hulu Plus and after less than a minute of playback, it froze completely for 90 seconds, then played 30 seconds of video at double speed, then froze again for more than two minutes. I touched the RCA DSB772We unit and it was red hot, at which time I unplugged all the cables and boxed it back up and off to Walmart I went.

I arrive at Walmart; only to be informed that customer service is not open between 11pm and 7am, what the fuck? you have a 24 hour store but not 24 hour customer service, seriously they can’t have one person manning the customer service desk overnight? I’m not impressed with Walmart nor the RCA streaming box. To add insult to injury, I find out that the DSB772WE has been discontinued, so it looks like Walmart at 11411 E Kellogg, Wichita, KS found some DSB772WE’s in the back of the stock room and put this flawed device on the shelf and charged $50 for it!
