It’s been five weeks since I last wrote about Liverpool and it looks like things are looking up; the last article I wrote was after the 1 – 3 defeat to Aston Villa at Anfield, which was a low point. But Liverpool have won four out of the last six matches including a 4 – 0 win over Fulham, 3 – 0 win over Sunderland and the 5 – 0 win over Norwich, pushing the Reds upto seventh in the Premiership!
The big game of the last five weeks was Manchester United Vs Liverpool and sadly Liverpool still come out second best, losing the game at Old Trafford 2 – 1. Despite this; I am not unhappy; Liverpool are going through a rebuilding phase under Brendan Rogers and it seems that the results are coming and a top four finish is possible, 12 points covering fourth through tenth places. More importantly for Liverpool, a top four finish means a return to Champions League football!
But a worrying trend is Luis Suarez continuing to hit the headlines, the latest thing is his admission of diving; something that Brendan Rogers has taken a very dim view of; vowing to take internal action against the Uruguayan. I just don’t understand why? Suarez is one of the best players in the world; he has no need to dive to score goals. It’s almost like the striker enjoys creating controversy.
The only signing so far in this transfer window is striker Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea, but more could be coming as the window comes to a close; it’s not unusual for deals to be done on deadline day. Tom Ince, Wesley Sneijder and Philippe Coutinho are believed to be on Liverpool’s wish list with veteran Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina likely to be leaving Merseyside according to the rumour mill!
