Plymouth Argyle avoid the drop into the bottom two of League 2 with a 1 – 2 victory over fellow strugglers Aldershot Town. This victory sees Argyle move up to 20th in the league while Aldershot drop into the bottom two; let’s hope we see a turnaround in Argyle’s fortunes in coming months.
Before I write about the game; John Sheridan has brought in fourth and fifth loan signings before the fixture at The EBB Stadium. Winger Jason Banton has been brought in on loan from Crystal Palace until March 2nd and Swindon Town’s midfield Lee Cox is on loan until the end of the season.
Back to the game against Aldershot Town; it was Jason Banton that scored both goals for the Pilgrims. The Palace loanee opened the scoring just five minutes into the game with a 25 yard deflected shot before the home side leveled the scores in the 11th minute, Peter Vincenti netting from close range. Banton struck again in the 41st minute with a curling low drive from inside the penalty area before Danny Rose almost equalised for the hosts but was denied by the woodwork!
Saturday’s win is nice change of fortunes after two scoreless draws against Dagenham & Redbridge and Accrington Stanley in previous weeks. The new gaffer is certainly making some positive changes at Home Park; the situation is still grave but I feel more positive with an experienced manager at the helm. I hope that John Sheridan can extend the loan of Banton to the end of the season as he looks like the goalscorer that Argyle desperately need; but that said, this only one game!
