Onto something more serious

After all the sport over the last few days, I have something to say about my own life for a change. This morning I went along to Rite Associates to see about getting some extra help with my CV to apply for a job at a local IT firm. But rather than getting help I got a condescending attitude from them, although not in so many words, they called me lazy, and not really interested in finding work, and if I really wanted to find IT related work, and I quote “I would hitch a ride up the A38 to London” as there are loads of IT related jobs up there. I see two problems with that, (a) why should I risk my life hitch-hiking (we are always told not to do it by the police) and (b) what am I supposed to do for money, while I am waiting for work in London, its not a cheap place to live. Also what was said, again not directly, but was insinuated, is that I don’t seem to be too interested, or motivated and I was wasting their time, they have already been paid by employment services for services that I haven’t taken up. They also implied that I was only there because I was worried about my benefits being stopped, which is completely untrue as I choose to go to the centre myself, not being pushed into it by the Jobcentre. Seems to me that they are only interested in the money and not really helping people. I was given an ultimatum basically, either I start coming in every day, which is only a few more days anyway, as the time is almost up for the time they can work with me. And to top it all off, they are not even very observant, implying that I wear the same clothes all the time because I was supposedly wearing the same clothes as last time I went to the centre. Which isn’t even true, as I am now wearing white jeans and a navy shirt, and before I was wearing black jeans and a white shirt, the only thing that was the same was my jacket and shoes. Admittedly I have been a bit slack in going to the centre because of various issues in my life, but to be insulted like that, is just not on. They may not have said these things directly, but the implications were there. Anyway I will be speaking to my advisor at the Jobcentre on Friday and explain the situation. I am seriously thinking about going to Working Links, because they will push me harder, I don’t mind being pushed hard to get stuff done as long as there isn’t an attitude to go with it.
