Well, lets start with football, more specifically Plymouth Argyle (surprise, surprise) who managed a scoreless draw against Notts County on Saturday, which is a decent result as Plymouth manager, Paul Sturrock walked out on the club, just days earlier. That coupled with Bristol City losing 2 – 0 away at Stockport, and QPR only managing a 1 – 1 draw at home to Oldham, means that Argyle have extended the gap at the top of the table to 5 points, so its seems that the Pilgrims freight train hasn’t been derailed by Sturrock leaving the team.
In Rugby Union, world champions, England went down 19 – 13 at (fortress) Twickenham, it’s a shock to say the least, if it was away in Ireland, I could understand it, has the England team because complacent or are Ireland really a better team? And with France beating Wales 29 – 22, that means that France top the table with six points followed by England and Ireland two points behind. Hopefully it was just a glitch in the system, and normal service will be resumed next week.
Finally, just for Chris, some more F1 rants. Early impressions of the new season, looks like its 2002 all over again with Ferrari dominating the proceedings, running away from the pack from the start, they even slowed down near the end of the race to protect the mechanics of the car, which is scary if they can back off that much and still win the race easily. Jenson Button had a good weekend, finishing in 6th place after being overtaken by both of the faster Williams, but a solid start to the season, and the BAR is much better than last year. David Couthard managed a single point for 8th place, which is the best he could have hoped for given that the car isn’t anywhere near on the pace; Kimi Raikonnen went out the race with technical issues in the middle of the race, as he feared would happen. Fernando Alonso had a solid start to the season finishing in 3rd place. The two Williams finished in 4th and 5th positions, so a reasonable start to the season for them. I really hope that the other teams can make rapid progress and catch up with the Ferrari’s, or I could lose interest in the F1 season very quickly.
