I have just reached new levels of hatred for Bill Gates and Microsoft; I was installing some drivers for a 3com network card on my mates Windows 98 PC, only to be presented with “Please Insert Windows 98 CD-ROM” which we don’t have as it was an OEM install, bearing in mind that this machine is over 5 years old. So I had the bright idea to install my unused upgrade version of Windows ME, after waiting for the best part of an hour to install it, found the hardware no problems, then I try to connect to Windows Update only to find it wont work and gives me an error code, am I supposed to know what each fuckin’ Windows error code means? And the Microsoft help site is about as much use as a chocolate teapot, and as far as I can make out I cant download the needed updates manually either. I get the feeling that everyone is being pushed towards XP and 2003 server, like it or not!!!

Ah, I feel better now… so I am going to install Windows 2000 tomorrow and hope for the best, as his machine only has a P166MMX processor and 2.1GB of hard disk space, but it does have 128MB RAM, which is a bonus, as the recommended spec is only 64MB.
