Two internet related stories today, first of which is to do with my own connection, which has been upgraded to 1.5Mb, just as Blueyonder said they would do, although I was surprised to find that it had been upgraded already, as it was due to be upgraded at the end of the month. Just to test the connection speed, I downloaded Service Pack 2 RC1 for Windows XP, and downloaded all 273MB in 28 minutes at 175.4KB/Sec, which is about right, given the 8% overhead on all Internet connections, which on a 1536Kb (192KB/Sec) connection is a startling 15.36KB/Sec loss of speed!
The second story which amused me is the fact that Brandon Buchan, a 21 year old student from Saskatoon in Canada successfully bid for a MP3 player on eBay, and to his shock and surprise he opened his package labelled MP3 Player to find a .22 calibre Smith & Wesson gun, complete with gun licence. Of course being a clean living law-abiding citizen he called the police in, who took the gun and licence away, but Brandon did keep a photocopy of the licence as a souvenir.
