This weekend is a celebration and memorial of the D-Day landings in Normandy, remembering and honouring the veterans that participated, and died in the operation that marked the beginning of the end of World War II. There will be many events over the weekends to commemorate the armed forces that took part in the operation in which thousands of men were killed. Modern society owes a lot to these brave men, without their sacrifice, we could well be speaking German right now, a point which is often lost within the younger generation!
In sports, Tim Henman lost to Guillermo Coria in another thriller semi-final, we expect no less from a Henman match. Tim was looking good for a berth in the final of the French Open at Roland Garros, but was outplayed in the middle section of the match losing 13 games on the trot to go behind 2 sets to 1, Henman fought back in the forth, but ended up losing the set 7 – 5, and the match 3 sets to 1, but things are looking good for Wimbledon.
In football, Plymouth Argyle has completed the transfer of two more new players from Scotland, Keith Lasley from Motherwell, and Matthias Doumbe from Hibernian. Both players are relishing the challenge of playing in the first division with the Pilgrims. England are to play Iceland in another warm-up match at the City Of Manchester Stadium today, lets hope that England can grind out a better result than they did earlier this week against Japan, who looked more likely to win than England ever did!
In personal issues this week has been a bit crap really, for the last few days I have been feeling really ill, having the feeling that I am about to throw up all the time, so that meant that I missed three gigs at the Phoenix, two of which I really wanted to see, but I really didn’t feel up to it, I was considering going last night despite feeling really ill and tired, but falling asleep at 7:30pm settles the argument in my mind. But the good news is that I feel better this morning, hopefully it will stay that way, as there is another gig on tonight!
