Firstly Formula One, Michael Schumacher has cruised to yet another win, despite Rubens Barrichello being faster all weekend, Ferrari team orders maybe? Barrichello eventually finished almost 3 seconds behind his Ferrari teammate. Takuma Sato managed to secure his first ever podium finish behind the Ferrari’s, but his team-mate Jenson Button retired from the race with gearbox problems, but David Couthard benefited from Jenson’s misfortune, finishing in 7th behind team-mate Kimi Raikonnen. The way that Ferrari seem to dominate on just about every type of track, the rest of the season is looking pretty bleak for F1 fans. My only hope is that Jenson Button will gain his first win this season, as Schumacher is almost guaranteed to win the world drivers championship for the 7th time.
In Euro2004 news, Germany were lucky to get away with a scoreless draw against Latvia, as Latvia looked more likely to score of the two teams and were denied two clear cut penalties. Also Holland weren’t must better, loosing 3 – 2 against the Czech Republic, so the form book has been thrown out of the window, as Holland were hot favourites before the tournament. In tonight’s games, Spain were the first of the big hitters to be dumped out of the tournament after loosing 1 – 0 to Portugal finishing on the same points as Greece, but Greece go through on the grounds of more goals scored despite losing 2 – 1 to Russia, so Russia and Spain go out of the tournament.
The whole of England will be hoping that England can get the required draw against Croatia, but hopefully it will be a win, but I wouldn’t bet on that, as Croatia proved that they have a quality team, holding France to a 2 – 2 draw, and almost beat the French with a late goal. So England need to be at their best, or close to their best to beat the Croatians.
