I suddenly feel so much better today!

Angelos Charisteas headed goal beating Fabien Barthez! Why’s that you ask? Well after the disappointment of England getting dumped out of the Euro 2004 championship because of some decidedly dodgy officiating. I am feeling pretty good about England’s performance after seeing France get dumped out of the championship by the underdogs Greece. The Greeks looked the better team for much of the match and absorbed all the French attacking play, the Greek defence stood firm and defended further up field, cutting out the French passes before they became too dangerous, this was reflected in the number of wayward goal attempts from the French side, there was stalemate until the 65th minute when Angelos Charisteas headed home past a floundering Fabien Barthez. France never really looked like they were going to win the match, and haven’t looked like defending champions all tournament, infact they were very lacklustre for much of the time, so I think that it’s a fair reflection of the French performance that they went out to a quality Greek side. With the sides that are left in the championship, I would say that either the Czech’s or the Dutch would win the championship, although the Dutch haven’t performed half as well as they are capable of so far! Guess we will find out one way or another if they can rise to the occasion later on tonight (Saturday) against Sweden.
