Holland and Henman Crash Out!!!

Holland have been knocked out of the Euro2004 championship by the ever improving host nation, losing 2 – 1 to the Portuguese. Ronaldo put Portugal in front with a headed goal from close range after 26 minutes, and then the lead was extended in the 56th minute when Maniche curled a superb shot around keeper van der Sar. Holland managed to pull one goal back on 63 minutes, courtesy of an own goal from Andrade, which set up a tense finish, although in my opinion Holland never looked like they were going to score, in fact if it wasn’t for the goal keeping skills of van der Sar, it could have easily been 5 – 1, Holland were poor tonight across the whole team, no excuses for the Dutchmen. Now the question is; will we have another shock tonight, with Greece beating the Czech Republic, I doubt it, but then again, I didn’t expect the Dutch to be beaten!

In Tennis, Britain’s hopes of a British winner of Wimbledon has been put to bed again for another year as Tim Henman went out to unseeded Mario Ancic, the Croat comprehensively beat the Englishman in 3 straight sets, 7-6 6-4 6-2. It seems that any hopes of an English champion anytime soon has been extinguished as this year was considered to be Henman’s best chance of taking the title. It really makes me wonder how English players can be so crap at Tennis when we invented the sport to begin with; maybe we need dedicated tennis academies like Australia and the United States.

In F1, I have just read that Ralf Schumacher’s injuries from his high speed accident at Indianapolis were worse than originally diagnosed, its likely that he will be out for up to 3 months after suffering two spinal fractures. Williams test/third driver, Marc Gene will replace Schumacher for the next few races at least. It does add weight to Max Moseley’s demand to reduce speeds in F1, but I still think the injuries aren’t that bad that speeds need to be reduced, besides the spectacle of F1 will be ruined if cars are crawling along the fast straights in relative terms.

Also yesterday I had a weird experience, I called about a job as an IT trainer with Academy Of Training, nothing bizarre about that you say, but my Contact was ‘Leanne’ and I remember thinking that it would be bizarre if it was my former Working Links advisor Leanne, and it was! bit a surreal experience really, but anyway, I have to send off a CV to Leanne, and we shall see what happens, it would be great if I could get that job, as I really enjoyed working as an IT trainer before with CC Training, so its fingers crossed, also best brush up with the latest training techniques as I have trained anyone since 1999.
