40 minutes sleep, one missed bus, four miles of shoe leather wear and tear, well rubber, 2 sets of wrong directions and no-one manning the reception desk, all lead to me not getting the chance to attempt the aptitude test. Firstly much to my annoyance, I couldn’t get to sleep until 6:35am, my insomnia strikes again, then I managed to miss the bus despite arriving at the bus stop 5 minutes before the bus was due to leave, but as I walked towards the bus stop, the bus pulled away, so that left me walking to Plymstock, which is two miles away. I arrived at the Royal Mail depot gates at dead on 9:30am, which is pretty good going walking 2 miles in 25 minutes. I asked the guy on the gate where visitor reception was, and got the wrong directions, I ended up in the HGV vehicle bays, then another set of dodgy directions later, and finally I stumbled upon visitor reception. It was now 9:38, then there was no-one at reception for five minutes, by the time I signed it, it was 9:43. I was then taken upstairs, only to be told that I had missed the start time, and I would have to come back tomorrow at 8:30am to try my luck to see if someone else drops out, and probably have to wait around all day, but the point was made that because I was late, that would go against me, so I am now wondering whether its worth the time and effort going back. Obviously I am back home now, really tired, hot and stressed after walking all that distance for no joy at all. And to top it all off, I have to see my Working Links advisor at 2pm, which was rearranged from 10:30am so that I could attend the interview, if it was still on for 10:30am I could have dropped in on the way home, so I now have 2 1/2 hours to kill, then another 20 minute walk. I am really wondering whether I will ever get an even break, it feels like the world is conspiring against me, all I want from life is a decent job that pays a decent wage, and be able to have a few drinks with mates a couple times a week, is that really too much to ask? Oh how I would love to win the lottery right now!!!
