Thunderstorms

Finally, the unbearable heat in the south west has broken, I woke up this morning, got out of bed and felt quite chilly, as you would expect only wearing a pair of boxer shorts. Even better than that, I was greeted with a thunderstorm, as many of the regular readers will know, I love thunderstorms (and snow) because we don’t get much of either down here in the south west of England. I feel a lot happier and more awake than I have done for some time, as the extreme heat was causing havoc with my sleeping patterns as I couldn’t sleep at night, waking up every 10 – 20 minutes because of the humidy, making it hard to breath!

In football, it seems that Michael Owen’s rumoured move to Real Madrid has hit a snag. The deal worth an estimated £25 million is in severe jeopardy after Samuel Eto’o is set to move to Real rivals, Barcelona for £18 million according to Spanish press reports, and Fernando Morientes played for Madrid against Wisla Krakow on Wednesday, so he will now be cup-tied under UEFA rules, so couldn’t play for Liverpool in Europe this season. Michael Owen could play for Real Madrid if the move took place as he sat out the champions league match against Graz AK on the bench. Hopefully Liverpool manager, Rafael Benitez will play Owen in the next champions league fixture and keep Owen with the team to the end of the season, and hopefully beyond! But that isn’t that likely as from Benitez body language, he isn’t too keen on keeping Owen at Anfield, he seems to have is own agenda, of bringing in new players, which is a little baffling as Liverpool have a strong team, with a proven track record, which was mismanaged last season under Houllier!

Things are still looking pretty bright for Argyle today, after last nights results, Plymouth are still in second spot in the championship, behind Wigan Athletic, who are top by virtue of scoring one extra goal, but both teams are on +2 goal difference. All being equal, all teams have played two games, it seems that the Pilgrims can hold their own in the championship, but tomorrows match against Cardiff will be the first real test for Williamson’s side, a win would be great, but an away draw with be a good result!
