It’s looking like the last mass producing British car manufacturer is to be sold off to Chinese company, Shanghai Automotive Corporation. The deal will mean that the Chinese will pump £1bn into ailing MG Rover, and aims to sell the cars to the Chinese market. MG Rover chairman John Towers, assures us that the brand will still remain British and production will remain at Longbridge. But my take on this is; why would a Chinese company build cars in the UK only to export them to China? It doesn’t make sense, it would make more sense to build the cars in China, which would be cheaper than building them in the UK. I really do hope that I am wrong about this, for the sake of all the workers at MG Rovers Longbridge production plant. All this leaves the UK without a mass-producing car manufacturer in British ownership; all we have now is small independent companies that produce a limited amount of cars, which is very sad indeed!!!
In Formula One, another shock departure, David Richards has been given his marching orders by Honda, who has recently bought 45% of the BAR team. He was ousted out of his contract with BAR, 12 months before it’s expiration. It is rumoured that Honda didn’t like the way he dealt with the Jenson Button situation, but I don’t see that he did anything wrong, he had the best interests of the team at heart. David and his Prodrive organisation have done wonders with the BAR team since he took over, taking them from nowhere to the second best team on the grid, and they thank him by giving him the push. Half of me wants the new BAT/Honda partnership to fail, but that will screw Jenson’s chances next season, guess only time will tell on that one, general public consensus says Honda have made a suicidal mistake by ditching Richards, and I really have to say that I agree with them!
That’s about all from me, nothing much has happened, been too tired and my ears still aren’t right, so I haven’t done anything since the last update.
