That’s the chant that was going around Home Part this evening. I really do agree with that sentiment, most of the decisions went the way of Everton; the standard of officiating in English league football is atrocious. The score line was 3 – 1 to the Merseyside team, but that score line flattered Everton, as Plymouth looked the better team for much of the match. On this performance, Argyle doesn’t look like a team sliding down the table at an alarming rate of knots. The problem Argyle have is that they tend to lose concentration in defence for a few minutes and suddenly they are 2 – 0 down, which is what happened today, the Icelandic midfielder Bjarni Gudjonsson, pulled a goal back half way through the first half, and from that time Argyle played with passion and resilience, dominating much of the match, but another lapse of concentration (and a hand ball appeal turned down) in the last 10 minutes sealed Plymouth’s fait. I am obviously disappointed with the result and the manner in which it transpired, but I am also proud of the way the team acquitted themselves and played excellent football, and given a different referee, could have even won the game. I am hopeful that they can draw from this game and start getting themselves back in contention in the Championship now, they clearly have the talent within the team.
