Another 5 – 1 Result!

Plymouth Argyle were involved in another 5 – 1 result this evening, but unfortunately for the Pilgrims, it was a 5 – 1 defeat at the hands of Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. The match went pretty much the same way as Argyle’s 5 – 1 thumping of Brighton at Home Park last Saturday, but in reverse with the Black Cats three goals to the good at half time, including a dubious penalty decision. Argyle conceded another goal half way through the second half; Scott Taylor grabbed a consolation goal in the 88th minute, but it was too little too late for Plymouth, Sean Thornton finished off any Argyle hopes in the dying moments of the game, putting the fifth goal of the day past Luke McCormick, wiping out all the good that was done on Saturday. But at least Argyle remains in 16th position in the table with Crewe and Brighton only managing a draw and a loss respectively. It’s a real disappointment to lose so badly after the excellent performance at Home Park, but I wasn’t expecting it to be easy going to the Stadium of Light, but I didn’t expect to be thumped for five. It really seems that Bobby Williamson needs to strengthen his defence as Argyle conceded two soft goals, which could have made all the difference. Argyle will have another tough match next Saturday against Millwall at The Den, hopefully Argyle can put this result behind them quickly and grab some points at Millwall this weekend!
