I have just discovered something rather annoying. My domain name, this very one (technostorm.co.uk) is in danger of being lost. I did plan to let the domain name expire and re-register it with 1&1 Internet instead of paying the extortionate £80 + VAT transfer fee from my current registrar, which I can neither afford nor want to pay. So I am stuck with one of two options, re-register the name with NUMO, which costs £25 + VAT per annum (£50 for two years, so they are making £45 profit just from the domain, thieving bastards), and keep the domain name with them. Or I could renew the domain with them and transfer it across to 1&1 costing me a total of £105 + VAT, £80 for the transfer, which is literally a PGP encrypted Email to Nominet, easy money for them. Or the final option is to let the domain name expire, which seems simple enough, but there’s a catch, the domain will become inactive after 30 days, and I wont be able to re-register it for a further 60 days in which technostorm.co.uk will fail to exist! So I am in a dilemma at the moment as it expires in 25 days time, I still have jasonlewis.name, but that isn’t my preferred domain name.
Update, I have decided to register myblog-online.co.uk, so that will help out and probably suits the site better, although I will be getting technostorm.co.uk back as soon as possible.
