..But on this occasion, its golf… erm, no, actually it’s cricket. Just for a change, England are ahead in the Ashes test series against the Aussies, 2 – 1 up with four tests played, although being English, its not in our nature to make it easy on ourselves. England threw away the game in the 3rd test, when we let Australia off the hook big time; we could have and should have won that test, but credit where its due, Australia played well to save the test. But this time around, England managed to convert their first innings advantage into a win, England made 477 runs in their first innings, Australia could only manage 218 runs in their first innings, which meant that they had to follow-on and bat their second innings immediately, in which they managed 387 runs. Which left England needing 129 runs to win the test; everything was going pretty well until four wickets fell for 54 runs and suddenly we were left with the bowlers [who are not exactly know for their batting ability] and still needing 18 runs. The thought “it’s happening again” and the idea that Australia could actually pull it out of the fire and win the match, but Giles and Hoggard stood firm, played sensibly and brought England home to victory. Now we have only one test left at the Oval to decide the series, could this be the year that England finally wrestle the Ashes away from the Aussies? I bloody well hope so, it’s been 18 years since the last Ashes win, and this is our best team since the 80s! fingers crossed! Although the Aussies will have some excuse why they didn’t win, anyone remember when we gave the Aussies a good stuffing in the Rugby, and their excuse was “they only won because it was raining”. Oh and Shane Warne will have to eat his words, infact, he always has eaten them as he said that Australia would whitewash England, and we can all see that hasn’t happened, and I am loving it, this is how it should be!
