Well, the first home game of the season for Plymouth Argyle wasn’t exactly the result that the 13,813 fans that attended the game were hoping for. The game started well, with Plymouth taking the lead in the 3rd minute when Mickey Evans headed Akos Buzsaky’s cross into the back of the net. Things got even better in the 11th minute when Tony Capaldi drilled the ball into the back of the net from 20 yards out to double the Pilgrims lead. Things started to go wrong in the 34th minute when Watford’s Marlon King pulled a goal back netting the rebound from Anthony McNamee shot. Plymouth restored their two goal lead 2 minutes before half time courtesy of the right foot of Paul Wotton; but Watford pegged back Argyle in the second half scoring shortly after the interval, and again in the 60th minute both courtesy of Ashley Young. Plymouth never really looked like taking the lead after that, and it was destined to end in a 3 – 3 draw, which really isn’t good enough considering that at half time Argyle were two goals to the good. It seems to me that Bobby Williamson hasn’t made any difference to the Argyle defence despite all the big signings that he has made to strengthen the defence, although Taribo West still hasn’t arrived in Plymouth as yet due to red tape in Italy, some sort of passport issues apparently. Although I am not convinced that he can have the influence that is obviously needed in the Plymouth backline. The only silver lining to the game is that we have actually moved up into 3rd spot in the Championship as other results went Plymouth’s way, but to stay in the top half of the table, we really need to win the home games; and come away with some points in every 2nd away game. Argyle can clearly score goals; but without a watertight defence that is useless, time to get out the poly-filler! Or else we will all be passengers on a sinking ship; Titanic anyone?
