I was happily listening to some very loud Iron Maiden with headphones, when I hear my downstairs neighbour banging on my door inbetween tracks. Upon walking towards the front door I feel a soggy feeling under my feet and hear the sound of water running, immediately I look at the washing machine; as I knew that I didn’t leave water running, and water is pissing out from the front of the washing machine. So I rush to the machine and switch everything off to stop the leak the best I can, before answering the door. Upon opening the door, my neighbour asks “do I have water running?” and that her bedroom is drenched. All I can do is apologise [although it’s technically not my fault], it’s not nice when something like this happens as I have had it happen to me in a previous address. I got off pretty lightly really, nothing is damaged, but I can’t say the same for downstairs. It looks like the whole drum has collapsed, which leaves me with another problem, both my work shirts are in the machine and I can’t open the door, which is a serious pain for obvious reasons, just going to have to explain what happened to the boss tomorrow morning. To say that I really could have done without this is an understatement!
Update: The shirt problem has gone away; a plumber from Beresford Ward managed to get the clothes out from the machine. Apparently a valve in the machine didn’t shut off, so the machine kept on filling up until the water had nowhere to go, but out of the machine, just as well I was home, if I had turned the machine on, and went out, the cycle of catastrophe probably would have gone on indefinitely and flooded the whole house, but that doesn’t make Emma downstairs feel any better! At least my shirts are out, hopefully they will be dry by the morning, as they are very wet to say the least, I’d rather not work in a soggy shirt!
