Plymouth have managed a 2 – 2 draw against quality Belgian side Anderlecht in Paul Wotton’s testimonial match at Home Park last night. The Pilgrims gave a very good account of themselves, and could have won! Plymouth were 2 – 0 up within 15 minutes courtesy of Mathias Doumbe and Bjarni Gudjonsson, but the visitors came back strongly with a brace of goals from Tao Chen which assured the Belgian side a draw after the 90 minutes. It was a good game all round, I wish I went to the game now, but I actually forgot all about it until I just read it on the BBC Sport website. If Plymouth can play this well in the Championship I don’t think they have anything to fear from the other teams, but the problem is that in the heat of battle Argyle tend to crumble under pressure, lets hope that Tony Pulis can instil some faith and motivation to fight and win matches more often. To prove what I read in the Evening Herald the other week wrong about Bobby Williamson not failing, which is crap obviously, but because Pulis lost the game against league leaders Sheffield United that was the sentiment, give the man a chance, it’s going to take some time to get the team together, and so far he hasn’t done bad, only losing one game in the four matches he has been in charge [inc. this testimonial], which isn’t a bad start to his management career at Argyle!
