Today I took the day off work as I feel like hell, struggled to even get to the phone to call in sick. I really felt ill like never before, stomach cramps, headache, backache, dizziness, not to mention a cold, cough and sore throat. I am getting the impression that work thinks that I was faking, which really pisses me off as I am probably the person that is least likely to take time off due to illness in the whole building. I don’t take much holiday time either; this will be only the second week that I have taken off all year. But that is now going to be delayed by a day as I have to work tomorrow as I can’t go from being sick straight into a holiday. What the fuck? why has no-one mentioned it before, its not in the contract nor the employees handbook, that’s why I reckon they think I am faking it! OK I did go out last night, but didn’t drink that much, no more than I normally do; the alcohol may have had a more severe effect because my body wasn’t quite able to deal with it so easily due to my immune system being weakened by the flu. I don’t fake being ill, infact I have been to work many times when feeling like hell, just because I feel that I am letting people down, particular the immediate team I work with. I am not sure whether I will be able to work tomorrow, but I am determined to go to work, even if just to prove how ill I am. You would have thought that they would have been given a little bit back and overlooked this ‘made up’ rule as I am always doing them favours and putting myself out when other people let the ‘team’ down. I really did consider walking in tomorrow and handing in my resignation, but that is out of the question as I can’t live on thin air, no matter how hard I try!
Better news for Plymouth Argyle who managed another respectable 1 – 1 draw away from home at Kenilworth Road against promotion chasing Luton Town. Like last Tuesdays game away at QPR the home team dominated much of the match. Plymouth obviously played for the draw, which should be the aim for away games anyway. Luton took the lead 15 minutes after the interval after a period of sustained pressure from The Hatters courtesy of Warren Feeney. Plymouth battled away and got their point from the match, substitute Bojan Djordjic managed to get on the end of Matt Derbyshire cross two minutes from time. In fairness Luton were unlucky to not take all three points, but being an Argyle fan, I am not going to complain, especially as Plymouth are now regularly scoring points, which is what we need to do, take it slow and steady, moving up towards safety in the league. Plymouth may only be 19th in the league, but are within three points of being 12th in the league; hopefully Plymouth can win their next two games at Home Park against Millwall and Leicester respectively, which will put the Pilgrims in mid table obscurity, which is better than being in the drop zone as we were six weeks ago. As you may have noticed I have been more positive about Argyle of late, playing much better football and coming away with decent results, which just shows that Williamson didn’t have what it takes to be a Championship manager, there is huge gulf between the Scottish leagues and English leagues, but Tony Pulis has done a solid job so far for the Pilgrims; and long may it continue!!!
