Last night I was on sound engineering duties at the Phoenix, easy one for me, only one band, but the band was exceptionally professional. They worked with me to achieve the best overall sound, doing exactly as I requested, which created one of the best sound that I have managed at the Phoenix. Obviously as the band knew what sort of sound they were looking for, they helped me tune their sound to perfection. I am always willing to work with bands to get their desired sound, but I have very little time for bands that are stubborn about their amp levels onstage, as any sound engineer will tell you, louder isn’t necessarily better. To add to the professionalism of the band, they were actually pretty damn good as well, so much so that I bought one of their EP’s, and I was surprised how close I managed to get the live sound to the recorded sound on the EP, just shows what can be achieved when a band works with the soundman. The band was called Obsessive Compulsive, female fronted 4 piece rock act, I recommend that you see them if they play anywhere near you.
In shock news, Plymouth Argyle has terminated the contract of Taribo West just two months after signing the Nigerian defender on a year long contract. No reason has been given for the 31 year olds departure as yet, but I think it has to be performance related, as I don’t think he has done anything in his short spell at Home Park, especially as the defence is leakier than the Titanic, I tend to think that Argyle need to look more at grass roots level players coming up through the ranks, much like Paul Wotton, who has been with the club for 10 years and recently had his testimonial match against Belgian side Anderlecht!
