It’s finally happened, I have been infected by spyware, don’t know how, but I have been infected by ‘SpyAxe’ which adds a BHO to pop up messages in the taskbar looking like a Windows Update thing, and whenever you open Internet Explorer it shows a web page at http://onlinesecuritytest.net/ saying that you have been infected and should download SpyAxe to remove it! Obviously I wasn’t sucked into this bullshit, instead after not being able to fix it myself; I turned to the almighty spyware killer Tomas aka RedAxe, who after some searching found the solution to my spyware hell. Everything is happy once again, although this wasn’t the way I intended spending my evening, fucking spyware writers should be; actually I best not say what I would do, it’ll probably get me arrested, but they could be described as this! Oh and the fix if you were wondering can be found here.
Work today hasn’t been the most enjoyable thing; it’s been busy as hell and was left on my own for the last 90 minutes of the day, which would normally be fine, but not in the three weeks running up to Christmas, total chaos was the word for it, I simply couldn’t cope with the volume of dirty dishes coming in. Washing the dishes is fine, but when you add, drying and taking the clean dishes back out to the shop floor, it becomes an impossible task! Not only has it been a shit day at work, I found out that I am down on the roster as working 1pm – 9pm on Thursday night, despite telling the supervisor several times that I cant work this Thursday. I am not working it as I have made a promise to Phil that I would do the sound at the Phoenix on Thursday evening, and besides I want to do this gig, as it’s a band that I have liked for ages and being their sound engineer for the night will be great! Back to work related bullshit, its seems that the supervisor in charge of the roster doesn’t ever listen and just takes it for granted that I am available to do all the overtime, which for the most part I am, its extra money after all, but it would be nice to be asked, sometimes I do have other things planned, contrary to popular belief I do have a life outside of Derrys.
Plymouth Argyle had another disappointing result on Saturday losing 3 – 1 at the Ricoh Arena against fellow strugglers Coventry City. “We threw it away” – The headline I read on a news board for the Evening Herald that I saw on the way to work, and it seems that was the way it was, with manager Tony Pulis not being too complimentary about his players. Plymouth took the lead 25 minutes into the game, and furious Coventry manager, Micky Adams brought on Richard Shaw, Don Hutchison and Andy Impey three minutes later, and what an inspired substitution, the effect was immediate when Andy Morrell brought the home team level, and Don Hutchison put The Sky Blues into the lead just before half time. Gary McSheffrey killed off any hope of Plymouth getting any points from the fixture four minutes after the break! At the end of the day, it’s not that Coventry were the better team, but Argyle’s defending was piss poor, conceding three soft goals that any championship defence should be able to stop. This seems to be a constant problem with Argyle, the defence is leakier than the Titanic, I don’t know what Pulis can do about it really, he has been trying incredibly hard to bring in talented players, but many don’t want to play in the south west, so Pulis’ attempts have been thwarted at every attempt! This result sees Plymouth slip to 20th position in the Championship, that just one place off relegation again, but the annoying thing is how tantalisingly close we are to mid table; just 8 points could take the Pilgrims up to 12th position in the league, three wins on the trot could see Argyle in relative safety, but that sort of performance seems a long way off at the moment!
eBay stuff, I managed to win the two compressors that I was bidding on, I got the MDX2600 for £41, and the MDX4600 for £37, so decent savings all round. I also ordered an 8-way XLR – XLR wiring loom to connect said compressors to the mixing console, which I picked up for £10, so in total I spent out £88, exclusive of delivery charges, which all in all is pretty good! Now comes the agonising wait for my payment to clear through PayPal from my bank account, the estimate is 6 working days, but I hope it doesn’t take that long, I would like to get the new toys before the end of next week as for some reason the seller only sends on the Saturday after payment is received, so I want it to clear before Friday at the latest! The new toys will be primarily used in the Phoenix, and will tighten up the sound no end, and more importantly there will be lots more level meters, lights and indicators!
Finally, it seems that the girl that I might have had something going on with in work doesn’t seem to be going anywhere; at least not at the moment. Maybe we are both being a bit coy at the moment, trying to find out how the other one feels without admitting anything themselves. I didn’t ask her to the gig as planned as I didn’t see her all day Friday, as she was upstairs in the staff canteen, and I never go up there, I always go out for lunch! Anyway, she is coming to the Phoenix to see me in action, so to speak as I engineer what may be the biggest gig of the year in the Phoenix. So I guess I will see what happens on the night, although I won’t be drinking as I am working, so the shields will still be up, alcohol helps bring down the shields a little and I tend to say what I feel more freely. The bizarre thing is that most of the catering staff in Derrys is pushing for me and the possible future wife to get it together, but I am unsure how well it would work anyway, chalk and cheese and all that sort of thing, but I guess this Thursday will be telling, if she doesn’t like the music or the live scene, it probably wont work as it’s such a large part of my life!
