I am now getting itchy buying fingers, it’s no secret that I need to upgrade my elderly graphics card; the current one being a GeForce 440MX (no sniggering at the back). I am due a tax rebate of £312 on the 9th March, but that 3 weeks away, I have considered asking my dad to loan me that amount until the rebate gets paid into my bank account. As well as buying a new graphics card, I want to add a further 2GB of RAM, and 300GB ATA100 hard disk drive as my current capacity of 55GB simply doesn’t cut it anymore. I can’t afford a whole new system, so I will have to upgrade the current system to a decent standard to get me through the next 18 months while I save my pennies for a top of the range PC, can’t be having Matt living in the same street as me with a faster rig can I? My current rig is OK, but when I try to run anything like Doom 3 or Half Life 2, you can see that the rig isn’t up to the current demands of the latest games, especially Doom 3 which is jerky even with all settings on low. The aforementioned games aren’t even that new anymore, I would like to be able to play these games at a decent frame rate and see all the amazing effects, especially the water effects on Half Life 2. Don’t get me wrong, the current hardware has served me well, but it’s time for it to be sent to silicon heaven for a well deserved rest! This is what I want to get, ATI Radeon 256Mb X1600 Pro graphics card, 2 x Kingston 1GB PC2700 DIMM’s, and finally a Seagate Barracuda 300GB hard disk, it’ll be nice to have a setup that can cope with the demands of the latest games, something it hasn’t been for about a year now!
