My sound engineering duties at the Phoenix have now officially finished. I did my final gig last night, and of the remaining gigs, I think that this was the best of them. It was a good night of music, the bands were all great people and very entertaining onstage, although my ears were starting to hurt towards the end of the night (with earplugs in), but that’s more to do with engineering five gigs in eight days rather than the bands playing. But overall it was a fine night to end my Phoenix sound engineering career, and it sounded pretty good; all the bands said so, although it probably would have been better if my ears were in better shape for the event! I am now torn whether to go to the last official gig at the Phoenix as it will be the end of an era for Plymouth’s live music scene. I want to go, but I also need to preserve my hearing, and it’s a pure metal night, so will be extremely loud, and I am not sure if my ears are up to it. I am not going to voodoo for that very reason tonight. I am also wary that if I do go on Friday night to the Phoenix, I will end up in JFK’s, which I don’t want to happen as I am trying to conserve my money this month, been wasting way too much recently on going out. I’m starting to realise that I’d rather have something tangible like some DVD’s or something like that, especially as Virgin has a 5 for £30 offer on again, which I always find hard to resist! I did have a look yesterday and spotted at least 15 DVDs that I wanted in that offer, £90 spent in my head already, but £90 for 15 DVD’s is a serious bargain in my opinion. As my dabs.com order hasn’t been dispatched yet, I may pop into town later this afternoon and have a look; and probably come back with a load of DVD’s.
Update: I did venture into town to grab some DVD’s, although I was quite restrained in my purchasing; only spending £30. Although I did buy £50 worth of DVDs, but I had £20 worth of ‘addict’ vouchers, so I got my prize purchase of today for free, the mighty Iron Maiden’s – Death on the Road DVD. Movies purchased were Garfield: The Movie, Blade Trinity, The Shawshank Redemption, Torque, and Saw, pretty damn good value for £30!
