Today hasn’t been a good day in work, in truth I never have a good day, I have uneventful days, but none could ever be described as good. Anyway, this morning the catering manager’s chief ass-kisser gave me a telling off for not keeping the potwash clean. But I wasn’t having that as I wasn’t working the late shift, and argued my point, but Mrs. Brownnose blamed the whole potwash team, so me and Chris both got it in the ear, despite it not being either of ours fault, but the guy that couldn’t be arsed to wipe down the walls and sweep/mop the floor wasn’t in today as he never works Sunday’s, yet always gets Monday’s off. When I am working late shift, I take five minutes at the end of the day to wipe the walls, and work surfaces down, then sweep and mop the floor. I can’t be responsible for what other people do, so don’t see why I should get it in the neck! But I have come to a decision today, I am not working Sunday’s anymore if this is the sort of hassle I get, it’s simply not worth it for £25 after tax, if they want me to work Sunday’s from now on, they’ll have to pay me double time; to be honest it should be double time anyway, as working Sunday’s is pretty much the same as working bank holidays, its voluntary. Plus I hate the way they just expect me to work Sunday’s; often I don’t even get asked, I find my name in the book as working Sunday’s. Another thing that annoyed me today is that they weekend staff collecting the dirty dishes in weren’t doing their job, just dumping everything on top of the trolley, not scraping the excess food off the plates, or wiping down the trays. Normally this wouldn’t have bothered me so much, but I was already in a bad mood after the bullshit as soon as I got in, but nothing was said to them at all. Normally nothing gets to me while working, I’ll usually let it go over my head, but Sharon noticed my general pissed off-ness as I am was unusually quiet today, didn’t say much just in case I bit someone’s head off who didn’t deserve it; I wanted to avoid that as they shouldn’t get the brunt of my anger!
Non work stuff, football, Argyle managed to grind out a scoreless draw against promotion chasing Sheffield United, who were thumped 4 – 1 at home against Watford last week. So I was expecting Sheffield to come to Home Park and punish Argyle, but the Pilgrims held firm and as the game went on, Argyle looked the more likely to snatch a winner, but sadly it didn’t happen. It would have been nice for Plymouth golden boy Paul Wotton to grab a late winner, but it wasn’t to be. Tony Pulis came up with a rather strange analogy saying “In Grand Prix terms they are a Ferrari to our Morris Minor” – but I understand what he means, and Saturday’s game was a good result when you look at it in that way. But at least Argyle are still sitting in 15th position, so still in mid table, and still have a good shout of finishing in the top third as five points cover positions 8 – 16 in the Championship. I think that I play off place is unlikely, but to finish in the top 8 teams will be a good start to Tony Pulis’ reign at Plymouth Argyle; he’s done well with what he inherited from Williamson!
Finally as outlined in previous posts I am doing my bit for charity, giving up my time tomorrow evening to engineer an Amnesty International gig at Voodoo Lounge. But I didn’t bet on it being six bands playing and it looks like the first band won’t be hitting the stage until 8:30pm at the earliest. And the list of bands aren’t the most appealing to me either, some of the loudest bands in Plymouth, I don’t mind loud, as long as it’s reasonably tuneful, but that isn’t likely given the line up. As it’s a vocal PA, I could be in trouble if the bands crank their amps too high, hopefully I can reason with them and convince them to let me control the volume on their amps. I only have 1Kw of power to play with, which should be enough if the bands all play ball! I did think of pulling out of this one, but it’s a little late now as the gig kicks off in just over 24 hours time. Hopefully there will be a few pints in it for me; I’ll need something to get me through six bands. I did want to be home relatively early, but it looks like I won’t be out of there much before 1am, but I guess it’s for a good cause!
