Firstly, Liverpool beat Newcastle on their own turf, so some ribbing of a certain Newcastle supporter in work tomorrow, especially as he is outnumbered by Liverpool supporters. Liverpool ran out comfortable winners after Newcastle were reduced to ten men early in the second half when Boumsong dragged down Crouch in the 18 yard box, the Merseyside team finished the game 3 – 1 up, but there was a nervous time when Newcastle got a goal back, and heaped on the pressure, but Djibril Cisse made no mistake from the penalty spot, which pretty much killed the game off. It’s just a shame that its come too late to make progress in Europe, as two weeks ago the Liverpool strike force couldn’t hit a barn door as 5 yards, hopefully this will signal a change of fortunes so they can overhaul the points difference between themselves and Manchester United to claim the final automatic qualification spot for the champions league next year. Second game was Fulham versus Chelsea and Fulham pulled off a shock 1 – 0 win over their London rivals. Chelsea got their just deserts in my opinion, Fulham were denied a blatant penalty early in the game, but got a little luck when Boa Morte just happened to be in the right place at the right time to put the home team ahead. Later in the game Chelsea did put the ball in the back of the net, but that goal was disallowed after the Fulham players complained that Didier Drogba handled the ball, which was later confirmed by television replays. Top marks to the referee Mike Dean for not buckling under pressure from the bigger team, OK, he didn’t see the hand ball, neither did his assistants, but he made the right decision, so it’s all good, it’s good to see Chelsea get turned over as they tend to get lucky in the final few minutes of the game.
