The Finnish metal act Lordi managed to pull off a shock win in the Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah‘. It wasn’t a narrow result either the Finnish act won the contest by 44 points over Russia. Seems that Europe does have some taste in music after all, even I voted this time around for the winners. The other song that I liked, Lithuania also did well finishing 6th with 162 points with their cheeky little number ‘We are the Winners (of Eurovision)’. The British entry Daz Sampson finished in a lowly 19th position, although the performance was good, I didn’t like his general attitude, he just seems to love himself too much, so I am glad he did badly in Eurovision, but of course the UK wont get relegated from next years event as the UK are one of the four countries that get automatic entry as we are one of the major contributors to the Eurovision! Terry Wogan kept us entertained all night with his irreverent comments about the songs and voting politics, the man is a comedy genius; Eurovision wouldn’t be the same without him. Anyway I am glad that something not traditionally Eurovision won the event and that’s one in the eye for all the small minded petty idiots that criticised the band and their inclusion in Eurovision, even up to today there was religious groups were saying that they are Satanists and their music is the work of the devil, Lordi are the best act I have ever seen in Eurovision and it makes a refreshing change to hear something that isn’t piss poor pop in the competition; they were so good that I even bought their latest album on the strength of their semi final performance!
