Yes, it’s Eurovision Song Contest time again, and after watching the semi-finals tonight I am impressed with the quality of entrants this year. But my favourite is Finland’s Hard rock Hallelujah by Lordi, some proper metal in the Eurovision complete with latex masks, I would love to see these guys win on Saturday; but I don’t see it happening as it’s not a traditional Eurovision song. I won’t be supporting that idiot Daz Sampson representing the UK, so for the first time ever, I will be supporting a different country, and that country will be Finland. I also liked the Lithuanian entry for its pure cheekiness, called “We Are The Winners” by LT United. Iceland managed to piss off the organisers of the event before her performance, but that didn’t put me off, I liked the song “Celebration” which was quirky to say the least; a cross between, Cyndi Lauper, Pink and the woman out of Aqua “I’m A Barbie Girl” – you know the one. Once again, it’s proves that Tomas isn’t the exception to the rule; they are all completely fucking nuts in Iceland! I will be looking forward to Saturday now, I am hoping to get a load of friends around for a Eurovision party, never done it before, a few beers, a little vodka, a couple bottles of wine, some munchies, should be a laugh!
Of course, it was the Champions League final last night and my prediction of the result was true, although I wasn’t that surprised to be honest. I would have liked Arsenal to win, but it wasn’t meant to be, Barcelona were simply too strong for the London team after they went down to ten men after Jens Lehmann was sent off for bringing down a player who was clear on goal. Some will say that the referee got it wrong, and should have played advantage and let the goal stand, but the rules are clear on such situations. If a goalkeeper or other player brings a player down when clear on goal, it’s a red card; it’s as simple as that. If he did play the advantage, it would have been a better game, but its easy saying that in hindsight. But the piss poor excuses made afterwards by the Arsenal team was simply out of order, they lost the match, they should have just accepted defeat gracefully. There definitely shouldn’t have been any accusing the referee of being a Barca supporter and claiming that he was more than biased towards the Spanish team giving more decisions Barca’s way, which is inexcusable in my opinion. As professional players, they should be able to accept defeat, and move on without opening their mouths slagging off their opponents and referees, I would say it makes you ashamed to be English, but since only two players were English you cant actually say it was an English team; they should have been proud to make all the way!
