Watching the England game this afternoon, I was thinking that Trinidad and Tobago were going to frustrate the English and hold out for another scoreless draw like they did against Sweden last Saturday afternoon and it looked that way until the 83rd minute. Peter Crouch ended the deadlock with a power header from close range to beat Shaka Hislop, and Steven Gerrard doubled the lead in added time with a rocket of a shot from the edge of the 18 yard box. England played well throughout the match, but just couldn’t find the target; Peter Crouch missed two sitters in the first half. But it wasn’t all England, Trinidad & Tobago played well on the counter-attack, almost scoring just before the half time break when Paul Robinson flapped at thin air, it was only the heroic goal line clearance of John Terry that saved England’s blushes. Seems that England is starting to get into their stride now, and the return of Wayne Rooney seems to have been a big boost to the team. As things stand, England has already qualified for the second round, and doesn’t need anything from the Sweden match next Tuesday evening, although going into the second round with a clean sheet will be a huge morale boost for the whole team; and judging by the Swedish performances thus far, I don’t think that England have much to worry about!
I went out to a live gig last night and drunk a little more than I intended to, but what’s changed eh? But that’s not the story I want to tell; when I arrived home in the taxi, I heard a voice coming from what appeared to be nowhere. Upon further investigation I found that it was a woman upstairs in a house a couple of doors down from me. Somehow she managed to get stuck in her bedroom while trying to move a walldrobe. So I naturally helped out, luckily her back door was open so I could let myself in to help the damsel in distress. I managed to move the walldrobe back into the room where it started from, and she offered me a cup of coffee, which I graciously accepted as I needed to sober up after the heavy session in the Hub. We had a chat about general things, music tastes mostly as she could tell I was a rock fan as I was wearing my Guns ‘N Roses hoodie, and she had an alternative look about her too, and was actually really nice. But I tend to think that I came across as a twat in my drunken state, I was very conscious about what I was saying, but my brain wasn’t firing on all cylinders after 10+ pints. I don’t know why, but she kept on mentioning that she had a boyfriend, maybe she thought that I saw her as an option as I had already made it into her flat; but that didn’t even cross my mind at the time, but she would probably have been the sort of person that would suit me, but she has a boyfriend so its not even an option, but its always good to meet new people; even if it is under such bizarre circumstances!
Finally my new speakers have arrived today and I am now listening to music through them right now, and I have to say that they make a huge difference in quality over my old Creative/Cambridge Audio 5.1 speakers which are seven years old now. If it sounds this good on the old soundcard as the new one didn’t arrive in the same package for some reason, maybe it will arrive tomorrow sometime, and hopefully it will make an even better improvement on the sound as it’s a professional grade sound card with six inputs for recording purposes. I also bought a load of new DVD’s today, having a debit card makes things so much easier, although that can also be bad as well as its so easy to spend a load of money easily. But I got seven DVD’s for £41, which is pretty good value I think. I bought the Blade Trilogy, I already have Blade Trinity, but £15 for all three movies + extras was a bargain. I also bought The Butterfly Effect, Queen of the Damned, White Noise and Dark Waters, the last two movies I haven’t seen before, but the write-up was so good that I bought them, although they were both less than £6, so its not a major risk!
