You’re going home… You’re going home…

Finally Luiz Felipe Scolari’s Portugal has been beaten at their own game, being beaten by a penalty scored by French football legend Zinedine Zidane. Thierry Henry earned the penalty after some clever play from France which Ricardo Carvalho had no answer to; but to bring down the Arsenal player. But after half-time France sat back, much in the same vain as Eriksson’s England after scoring, and you’re always thinking that the opposition could sneak a goal, especially with the individual skill that Portugal possess. But luckily for France; Portugal never looked that convincing, and didn’t trouble Fabien Barthez not making the best of their chances. I am not a French fan by any stretch of the imagination, but tonight I was an honorary Frenchman. I reckon there must have been quite a few “honorary Frenchman” in the crowd as Cristiano Ronaldo was booed every time he touched the ball. It wasn’t the most exciting of games to be honest, especially after France scored their first and only goal, and Portugal didn’t look like a potent enough force to change the 1 – 0 scoreline. So it’s France versus Italy in the final on Sunday; and given the performance in the semi’s I would say that Italy have the edge as they looked the much better team; but you never know, anything could happen, and I don’t mind which team wins now, so I shall be sitting back and watching as neutral. I don’t really have anything against the French or Italians in footballing terms, but France will need to step up to the plate if they are to take their second world cup in 2006, but you would never discount them would you?

Footnote: I suggest that the Portuguese football team would be more at home in the pool, the diving pool that is; as they are clearly excellent divers, in fact I would give them 10 out of 10 for their diving ability! I have to give credit to the Uruguayan referee Jorge Larrionda, who allowed the game to flow and kept his cards in his pocket for the most part; and saw through all the Portuguese theatrics, no matter how much they complained!

Oh, almost forgot again; been meaning to post this for the last two updates; I have had to invest in another set of earphones for my iPod as the supplied pair didn’t like Iron Maiden’s “Dance of Death” album at full volume, and now pops rather than produce any sort of bass sounds. I can’t say that I am surprised, but you’d expect earphones to last more than 24 hours wouldn’t you? But I have ordered the award winning Sennheiser MX 500, which should do the job nicely! While I was browsing around Play.com I found Doom (the movie) on DVD for £7.99 delivered, and the headphones cost £14.99 delivered, so I am happy with my purchases, I expect them to arrive either tomorrow or Friday; at least I hope so as I don’t think the supplied iPod earphones cant take much more punishment!
