And that decision is to not go to the funeral tomorrow, there’s been too much bad blood between myself and my mothers family, and even my own brothers, each and every one of them used her in one way or another over the years, and the last straw for me was when my uncle accused me of not looking after my mother properly and claimed I caused her second stroke that put her in a home for the last eight years. Obviously I didn’t react well to this as I spent six years of my life caring for her at home for a meager £50 per week, and threatened him with “if I see you ever again, it won’t be pretty” and since then I haven’t seen them other than from a distance. There’s nothing I can do for mother now, so I don’t see my point in dragging up the past after all these years, I’ll leave that subject here!
Onto something more positive, Liverpool have beaten Chelsea 2 – 1 in the Community Shield, not Charity Shield as I wrote yesterday, although I swear it used to be called the Charity Shield? Anyway that’s beside the point, both teams gave a good account of themselves today, with Chelsea probably looking the better team in the first 60 minutes. But it was Liverpool that drew first blood, with John Arne Riise running almost the length of the pitch to beat Cudicini with a dipping shot. But Chelsea piled on the pressure once more and made a breakthrough just before half time with £30.8m Andriy Shevchenko latching onto the end of a Lampard cross. After 60 minutes Benitez brought on the big guns Gerrard, Alonso and Bellamy then suddenly Liverpool were looking much more of an attacking threat. With only 10 minutes left to play, robot dance man, Peter Crouch got his head to a superb Craig Bellamy cross to beat Cudicini for the second time in the match. So a much better showing from the Merseyside team against English (I use that term lightly) opposition, let’s face it their pre-season form hasn’t exactly been great, losing their three pre-season games and just scraping by their Israeli champions league competition mid-week! While we are talking Liverpool, skipper Steven Gerrard has launched a scathing attack on Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese team in his autobiography which is being serialised in the News of the World. He also spoke out about former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson about his tactics and only taking four strikers and said that Theo Walcott had no right to be in the England squad in Germany, have a read here if you want!
