I have decided to go out of my way to find a way to get back into sound engineering, I was sort of pinning my hopes of falling back into it via someone else, but I am starting to think that’s not going to happen, so I guess I that will have to make it happen. Sending out Email’s and letters to venues, maybe even getting business cards printed up. I really don’t want to go back to a 9 – 5 job again, I loved sound engineering as each and every gig presented a new challenge to me to get the sound right, and I relish the chance to improve my skills by listening to other engineers and bands/fans. Since it’s something that interests me, I will try harder to make it happen and 90% of the time it will happen, obviously sometimes things simply don’t go your way. A PA can only amplify the input sound, a cheapo combo amp or a poorly set up amp will sound awful through a PA, ‘tuning’ sound via the EQ can only do so much! I am very confident in my own abilities, but it’s proving that to other people or venues, a lot of bands have complimented me on my sound on and off stage, and other appreciate my honesty when I get it wrong, I will go up to the band and apologise, even if it’s beyond my control, equipment limitations etc. I know in real terms that I should have pursued this much earlier, straight after leaving the Phoenix, but at the time I felt that I wanted out of the whole live music scene, but it seems that it’s in my blood, and I really have the itch to get behind the desk again after six months with so much as touching a fader!
