For the last couple of days I have been laid out in bed ill, yet I still decided to go out last night, spent £20 including taxi’s and had an awful time. I was all ready to go to bed and get good nights sleep when Stephen mentioned he was going out, and stupidly I decided to tag along. I struggled with the first couple of pints in Voodoo, in fact I only drank two John Smiths and one coke, but I was feeling more awake and feeling a lot better so joined my friends in JFK’s only to feel ill after drinking a pint of Castlemaine so ended up leaving just 45 minutes after arriving. I didn’t see much point in hanging around when I blatantly wasn’t enjoying it in the slightest, guess JFK’s just doesn’t do it for me anymore. The night was a complete waste of time and money from my perspective, I was never up for going out, I just deluded myself really and blew £20 on a bit of a non-night out. But I did find one bit of information while walking to the taxi rank, apparently the Phoenix has re-opened and is putting on live music on weekends, which sort of makes today’s Phoenix remembrance service a bit bizarre really, but I doubt it will be live music as we remember it from our days at the Phoenix. But what’s interesting is that they are open normal pub hours, 11am – 12am which we could never make work at the Phoenix. I will have to pop in at some point maybe a Saturday night when some bands are playing to check out what they’ve done to the place!
Saddam Hussain has been executed for war crimes in Iraq this morning at 6am Iraqi time. Everyone knows that Saddam Hussain was a very evil man, but you have to feel that the whole trial was a US/UK lead affair under the guise of an Iraqi court. Which in simple terms was a show trial to show that he was given a fair trial, but that’s a joke when it was a forgone conclusion what would happen to the former Iraqi dictator. But the question I ask? is Iraq in any better state now than it was when Saddam was in charge? If anything it’s even more unstable now with more deaths and violence taking place than ever did under Saddam’s regime. Don’t get me wrong, I am not justifying Saddam’s actions, he deserved his death sentence; that has never been in doubt, but I question the whole diplomatic process that lead to his execution, in reality this whole war was the US government flexing its muscles!
