Hey Mr. DJ!

I have no idea why I am taking this on, but myself and my house-mate Stephen will be taking over Voodoo Alternative from the 31st January. But thing’s won’t be as static as they were with Colin and Sam, we will be playing a more broad spectrum of music considered to be indie/alternative, anything from Slayer to Prodigy to Arctic Monkeys and playing breaking new tracks. Plus we will be having guest DJ’s and live bands once a month, hopefully getting Colin and Sam back for Mr. Alternative in the summer. The whole idea is to keep things fresh, I found that the old Voodoo Alternative became a bit stagnated and people lost interest, which eventually caused it’s demise. In a way we want to be a half-way house between Mark Williams at the Quay Club on Thursdays and DJ Jason & Co at JFK’s on Fridays with a sprinkling of live music. I think the night could be massively successful, but it will mean a load of hard work promoting the night and keep on promoting the night, we don’t have the same sort of regular customer base as JFK’s or Quay Club, so we’ll have to work on it, but I see no reason why we can’t do as well as those places. The advantage we have at Voodoo is location, it is right on the edge of student land and also in the city centre, so with some good marketing we could put Voodoo Alternative up there with JFK’s and the Quay Club. Also as Voodoo only has a capacity of about 250, we wouldn’t require thousands of people to make the place look busy and give it at atmosphere. I am very excited about this night now, I have already organised the first band for the launch party, everything is in place all we need is some people to come to the night. I am going to try to negotiate some drinks promotions to get in line with the Quay Club especially if we are to pull in the student community; but overall things are looking good! Also I want to keep the door tax down as well, first week will be free entry then £1 after that, so it’s very attractive to people after a cheap night out! If I can negotiate some drinks promotions, maybe £1 bottles and/or £1.50 pints of Castlemaine, that would mean people could come with £10, get entrance to the club and 9 bottles or 6 pints, pretty good value I think!
