Still Brewing!

Ian Holloway is spending another few weeks in the [FA] cup brewing nicely gliding around another potential banana skin beating Barnet 0 – 2 away at Underhill to make it into the fifth round. Barnet played very well, especially in the first half restricting Argyle to long range efforts so the first half ended goalless. The deadlock was broken in the 67th minute from the penalty spot by Hasney Aljofree after Joe Devera brought down David Norris in the area. The penalty deflated the home team and allowed Argyle to play more attacking football and that lead was doubled seven minutes from time with a superb run from loan signing Scott Sinclair running 3/4 the length of the pitch dodging tackles from the home players to calmly slot home from about 10 yards out. Let’s hope that Jose Mourinho wasn’t watching the game and recalls Sinclair, Argyle would love to hold onto the youngster for a little longer! The next tie will be a little more tricky versus Derby County at Home Park, let’s hope for a re-run of the last time the teams met at Home Park, honours are even this season with each team winning their respective home ties with Derby beating the Pilgrims 1 – 0!

A better performance from the English cricket team last night, but ultimately it was still a loss to New Zealand, which isn’t what was required! The Black Caps beat the English by 58 runs after setting a target of 319 runs to win from their innings. Lou Vincent, Ross Taylor and Jacob Oram did the damage to England’s chances achieving a combined total of 201 runs, although England’s fielding was poor at best, not taking the opportunities when came up. The England camp has had a bit of a shuffle with former opener Strauss batting at number 4 and Joyce opening the batting with Loye although Loye failed to do much again, only bagging 15 runs, but Joyce was excellent knocking up 66 before getting run out. Wicket keeper Paul Nixon also played well falling short of a one day half century being caught on 49 runs. A better performance, but still came up short, the fielding needed to be better as did the bowling for England to have any chance of beating the Kiwi’s.

Work was good last night, it’s was a very straightforward night for a change, no problems, I had to use the open mic speakers for the drum fill as the upstairs drum fill had failed again for some unknown reason. You really can’t go through the night without a drum fill, the drummer won’t be able to hear anything that is going on as he is well behind the PA and front wedges. I even impressed myself with the sound I achieved last night, normally I am very critical, but last night I was happy with the sound despite the second and headlining band not really having soundchecks. I just guessed the levels and they were pretty much bang on, only needing to make small adjustments to the sound, so a good night all round, the bands were good, the sound was good and there was a decent size crowd in the house, not at all bad for a Monday! I just wish I took the minidisc to record it as it was so good!

Finally the continuation of the saga of my (e)dating, I told Miss T (that’s what I shall refer to her as for now) how I feel about her, obviously I can’t say I feel love just yet, but I definitely feel something for her. She does feel something for me as well, but she isn’t so certain about me as she has been messed around with guys in her past. It’s awkward really as we are so far away from each other, we may not get on so well in ‘real’ life, although I reckon that we would, but Miss T doesn’t want to commit to anything just yet. I have to admit I am a concerned that I am reading too much into it, and feel strongly for her as I rarely connect with a woman as much as I have with her. But we’ll see where it takes us, neither of us can afford to pay a visit to each others countries, air fairs are extortionate at the moment, over £700 to travel to the US one way! So we can get to know everything about each other before we meet, and not find out anything nasty later in the relationship should it happen. Although we have shared a lot of very (very) personal info if you get what I mean, not the sort of thing that comes up in polite conversation normally, but neither of us is normal!
