It has to get better, doesn’t it?

It was Alternation night again last night and the second band night that I have put on, and it was another disappointing one. I am more disappointed for the band as they are top guys, probably not the sort of music that really suited the night really, but since it was at short notice, I can’t grumble really. I personally liked the band as people and musically, but indie doesn’t really work in a metal night. 25 people came in to see the band, which made it a little better, but they all left pretty much straight after the band, which is fair enough as the music was pretty heavy straight afterwards. I have to say thanks to The Various Assortments for playing at such short notice, I’m sure we will have them back at the Voodoo Lounge very soon, just not on a Wednesday night. There were 45 paying customers plus staff and band guest list and one ex-staff member, telling Kelly he was staff, which was cheeky, which I don’t mind too much, he did bring a load of people with him, although half of them didn’t pay, but it had already past 1am, so I didn’t bother chasing them up as I was going to close the till down anyway, it just made it a little better for Steve and Stephen to play to a few extra people, there’s nothing worse than playing to an empty room! Next week will be a normal club night, so it’ll be 10pm – 2am, no point in opening at 9pm, and the following week I have high hopes for, two quality metal bands, so it will fit in with the night much better than this weeks band, I guess we can never predict what will happen, but we need to stay positive, the night has lots of potential; we need to capitalise on that potential!

Plymouth Argyle won their second home game in the last four days beating Colchester convincingly 3 – 0. The visitors were behind within 11 minutes when David Norris picked up on a stray ball to fire a rasping shot through the Colchester defence into the top right of goal. Colchester did well to hold rampant Argyle at bay until the 58th minute when Wayne Brown brought down Sylvan Ebanks-Blake in the 18 yard box. The striker made no mistake in converting the penalty chance, powering the ball into the top centre of goal to give the Pilgrims a 2 – 0 lead over the visitors. Dan Gosling made it 3 – 0 with a driving low shot from 12 yards out to defeat Dean Gerken for the third time. So a good result for the Pilgrims elevating them to 11th in the league, it’s looking more and more unlikely that Argyle can make it to a play-off place now, but you never know what may happen, at the start of the season you wouldn’t have bet on Argyle making it to the last 8 of the FA cup! Speaking of the FA cup, the BBC has confirmed that it will be showing Argyle’s game at Home Park against Watford on the 11th March which is a good draw for Plymouth, there’s a definite possibility that the Green Army could make it into the semi-finals, which would be absolutely amazing. But also with the match being televised Plymouth will gain £265k and a further £300k if they beat Watford! Just imagine, if Argyle could do the impossible and win the FA cup, that would mean they would be playing in Europe next season, I know it’s unlikely to happen, but it’s hard not to think about the possibilities, but I need to keep my feet on the ground!
