You win some, you lose some!

Let’s start with the positive, England successfully avoided the banana skin that is Kenya to make it into the last 8 of the cricket world cup. Kenya put up very little resistance against England’s bowling attack, only Steve Tikolo made a decent score, knocking up 76 runs before being bowled by ‘Freddy’ Flintoff. England only took 33 overs to beat Kenya’s total of 177 with Ed Joyce and Kevin Pietersen top scoring with 75 and 56 not out respectively. So it’s into the super 8 stage where England will face Ireland (yes, you read that right, Ireland) on the 30th March and joint favourites Sri Lanka on the 4th April. England should be able to beat Ireland, but Sri Lanka will be a tough one, Sri Lanka are playing some excellent cricket at the moment and England will need to step up their game if they want to make it into the next round; anything is possible, we have some good in form players at the moment!

The English football team weren’t so fortunate only managing a 0 – 0 stalemate with Israel in Tel Aviv. Frankly England weren’t good enough, they didn’t take their chances when they came up, something that is essential if England want to do anything on the world stage. Jamie Carragher came closest for England with his headed shot ricocheting off the bar. If it wasn’t for Paul Robinson denying Toto Tamuz, England could have found themselves coming home with no points. I don’t understand what is going on with the English football team at the moment, we have such individual talent in the team, but they don’t seem to play as a cohesive unit. Frankly I think this comes down to the ego of the ‘superstar’ players, they are not team players, it’s all about being in the spotlight for them. I think like most sports, it’s become about money, not about the game itself, which is detrimental to any sport in my opinion! Let’s face it, third in the group table isn’t good enough for the sort of quality players England have, Russia are three points ahead of us, that’s just about sums up England’s performance since Steve Maclaren took over as England manager.

I got to play with the new lighting desk last night, not all the lights are in place yet, but from what I have seen, it makes a massive difference to the overall stage lighting. The whole stage is illuminated much better with only two new lights, so imagine what it’ll be like with eight lights like that, plus the existing cans we have. It’s nice to have control over the lights, being able to flood the stage with any colour I want and the strobe effect is brilliant for hardcore gigs. But I like the new lighting desk even if it works in a completely different way than I expected. Each fader doesn’t control one light each, rather an effect for the lights connected, my understanding of DMX controllers had been completely wrong, but now I understand, just need to learn how to program it now; and it looks very cool; more lights :)
