Plymouth Argyle have slumped to their second heavy away defeat in four days at Turf Moor against Burnley. Burnley scored three times in the first half and made it four 15 minutes after the half time break. Ian Holloway made no attempt to hide his anger and frustration stating “It’s the worst performance in my football career. It’s an absolute disgrace. That was embarrassing. It looked like we were playing a testimonial game and they were playing a real match. It’s unacceptable and I apologise wholeheartedly to the fans. I suggest that the players pay for their tickets and their travel.” I fail to understand why this happens time and time again, Argyle start the season well, then tail off as the season comes to a close, but 4 – 0 is really bad, Argyle looked like a bunch of amateurs out there playing against a professional team. There’s no excuses from Argyle, Ollie certainly hasn’t made any excuses for his team, it’s very simple; they weren’t good enough, and they can’t argue with that!
Liverpool had better fortunes last night beating PSV in resounding fashion away in Holland. The reds took the lead in the 27th minute with a power header from Steven Gerrard converting Steve Finnan’s cross. John Arne Riise doubled the lead just after the half time break with a rocket of a shot from just outside the 18 yard box. Peter Crouch put the result beyond doubt with another headed goal again from another fine cross from Steve Finnan. PSV never really looked like the were in the game, it was all one way traffic and Liverpool probably should have won by a bigger margin. Liverpool has pretty much booked their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League, PSV would need to beat Liverpool 4 – 0 at fortress Anfield to progress into the next round, which is unlikely at best!
