Last night was a good night for me, Open mic was busy, so I wasn’t sat around for ages doing nothing, and more importantly Liverpool beat Chelsea to make it into the Champions League final and will face either AC Milan or Manchester United, we’ll find out that result tonight. It was a nervy night for the Liverpool fans, which was eased by Daniel Agger’s brilliant flick just inside the upright from a Stevie Gerrard free-kick, catching Petr Cech out. But the fans knew that should Chelsea score, Liverpool would need to win the game 3 – 1 as Chelsea would have gone through on away goals with a 2 – 1 result. There was lots of heroics from the Liverpool defence, last ditch tackles, somehow keeping Chelsea from getting a clean shot on goal. But Liverpool had the better chances, Dirk Kuyt rattled the crossbar and had a goal disallowed for offside, which replays clearly show was onside, he was level with the Chelsea last man when the ball was played. So it came down to penalties, the nerves had become unbearable as any English fan knows the pain and heartache of defeat on penalties. Pepe Reina did the Kop proud, saving Chelsea’s first and third penalties and Liverpool didn’t miss a beat to win the penalty shoot out 4 – 1. I always fancied Liverpool in a penalty shoot out as I knew that Reina is a great shot stopper, but that still doesn’t stop you feeling the pressure, I can’t imagine the pressure the players must have felt. I think that this is a fair result on balance of play especially as Liverpool were denied the winning goal with a wrongly judged offside call. And most of all because of all of Jose Mourinho’s trash talking before the game, yet he still maintained that Chelsea were the better team in the post match interviews. Anyway, we really don’t a damn, the boys in red got the job done, now onto the final in two weeks time, I really hope it’s a Manchester United Vs Liverpool Champions League final, winning that would put a nice exclamation mark on Liverpool’s season for me!
