As expected Lewis Hamilton took the win at Hungaroring, although Kimi Raikkonen kept the Briton honest pushing him all the way after dispatching Nick Heidfeld in the first corner. I think that everything that has happened to Hamilton in the last few weeks has taught him a lot, and he learns very quickly. Everything from his disastrous European Grand Prix through to Alonso’s “gamesmanship” in qualifying yesterday has made him a more rounded driver without losing his confidence and aggression on track! Nick Heidfeld secured third spot ahead of the rather ragged Alonso, seems that Alonso is feeling the pressure right now. The sister BMW of Robert Kubica came home in fifth, so another solid points finish for BMW. Ralf Schumacher eventually finished in sixth after holding off Alonso until the second round of pit stops. Nico Rosberg brought his Williams home in seventh and Heikki Kovalainen claimed the final point in eighth for Renault 8.2 seconds ahead of Mark Webber. So just for a change the FIA got something right, and showed the world (and drivers) that cheats never prosper in F1, which hasn’t always been true. I think that McLaren were dealt with a little harshly not being able to claim constructors points pending an appeal. But whatever went on in the McLaren team this weekend needs to be sorted as it will be the undoing of the team. But they still need to operate within the rules of the sport, I would expect this sort of behaviour from Ferrari, but I always thought the integrity of McLaren was above that. The end result of all this weekends dramas is that Lewis Hamilton extends his lead over Fernando Alonso to seven points while Kimi Raikkonen moves ahead of team mate Felipe Massa, twenty points behind leader Hamilton!
