Plymouth Argyle were lucky to get away with a draw at Layer Road in a rather lacklustre game. The first half, well in simple terms was rubbish, neither team really did anything of interest. Kevin Lisbie gave Colchester the lead after Romain Larrieu failed to hold Mark Yeates shot. David Norris saved Argyle’s blushes in the 88th minute tapping in from close range from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake neat pass. Rory Fallon deflected Norris’ corner onto the crossbar earlier in the second half. On balance Colchester were well worth a point, although if Fallon’s deflection was an inch lower it would have been Argyle walking away with all three points. Plymouth have slipped back to 10th after riding high in the play off places just two weeks earlier, but it’s a very tight league so anything could happen during this season.
Liverpool had better fortunes in the champions league beating Besiktas 8 – 0 at Anfield in a must win game. Peter Crouch opened the scoring in the 19th minute after his initial shot was parried by Besikitas keeper Hakan Arikan tapping in the rebound. Yossi Benayoun claimed his first hat-trick in a Liverpool shirt to put Liverpool 4 – 0 up in the 55th minute. Steven Gerrard got in on the act scoring one of his trademark goals from just outside the penalty area to make it 5 – 0. Ryan Babel made it 6 – 0 in the 79th minute from close range; and struck again two minutes later to make it 7 – 0 to the home team. Peter Crouch made it a neat 8 – 0 in the 89th minute with a coolly taken header from 6 yards out. Liverpool still have an uphill battle to qualify for the next round; they really can’t afford to drop any more points in this campaign if they are to qualify, but scoring eight may do wonders if it comes down to goal difference to qualify. The Reds now face Porto at Anfield on 28th of this month; the face a tough trip away to Marseille two weeks later, both are must win games!
I have been hearing rumours again that certain people within the Voodoo Lounge are not happy with the way that Wednesday nights are going. This person has only been a employee of the Voodoo Lounge for two weeks. I invite anyone to try their hand at running the night and making it better; midweek nights are incredibly hard to promote and get people through the door. Although the money is nice; at £50 per night it’s easy money, but I am not enjoying the night at all; it’s crap DJ’ing to a handful of people. I could spend more money on promotion; but it would be throwing good money after bad. Midweek club night plus the added annoyance of the smoking ban has made it really tough going. I have no quibbles in taking 50 quid for the night, I provide the music; and spend a far amount of time promoting on and offline; plus acquiring new music, so I am definitely earning my £50.
