That’s the only way I can describe the behaviour of the lead singer of the headline band last night. The other band members immediately came up to me and apologised for his behaviour; which is why I won’t name the band as the other guys were nice (and happy with the sound) and so apologetic afterwards! Now what happened is they had a lengthy soundcheck to make sure they were all happy with the on stage sound. Then when they went on, the first thing they did was turn their amps up louder than agreed during soundcheck. But that in itself wasn’t a massive issue for the front of house sound but didn’t help the on stage balance. The lead singer stopped in the middle of the set and said “I hope there’s some balls out there because it sounds shit up here” – What am I supposed to do with that, telling me what they wanted more or less of would have helped me fix the problems. Saying that the sound is crap doesn’t tell me anything, I can’t hear the on stage monitor sound, I can only engineer the front of house sound. The front of house sound was good, everything was clear and defined and the crowd were happy with the sound as was the promoter for the night. At the end of the set the singer said over the microphone “thanks to the engineer for giving us the worst sound ever” to which I stooped down to his level saying over the system “thanks to the band for being assholes”. But it was just the singer really, I was just pissed off because of his behaviour. Not only did he piss me off, he pissed off the promoter and his band mates and embarrassed himself showing his unprofessionalism. It’s a case of wannabe rock star syndrome, later saying to one of his band mates “you are lucky to have me as your singer”. It’s a combination of alcohol impairing his ability to judge sound and his own arrogance that let down everyone. Personally I would get a new singer I wouldn’t want someone like that in my band, someone who thinks he’s better than the rest of the band. At the end of the day they are just another local band, don’t get me wrong they are a good band and the singer is good but his attitude makes me dislike him and I am now mulling over whether I want to engineer their next gig in Voodoo at the end of February!
Argyles lack of potency in attack showed today after recent departures from Home Park. Plymouth had no trouble getting the ball into the danger area but lacked any sort of finishing prowess. The closest Argyle came all game to scoring was in the second minute but Lilian Nalis headed Peter Halmosi free kick straight at Burnley keeper Brian Jensen. The game was settled by a single goal in the 66th minute. Robbie Blake powering Wade Elliott’s cross into the top of the Argyle net. Plymouth fall two places to 9th in the league after this disappointing defeat to a team that hasn’t won at home in 10 games. Liverpool also dropped points only managing a lacklustre draw at the Riverside Stadium, falling a whopping 12 points behind Arsenal and Manchester United. George Boateng put the home team in the lead capitalising on Liverpool’s dire defending failing to clear Stewart Downing’s cross into the penalty area. Liverpool could have went two down if it wasn’t for Pepe Reina tipping Downing’s shot onto the post. Fernando Torres fired off an Exocet missile from 25 yards out in the 71st minute to level things for the Reds. Middlesbrough restricted Liverpool to long range efforts; Ryan Babel and Steven Gerrard had opportunities to win it for Liverpool but couldn’t find the target. Liverpool are currently in 4th in the Premier League but their title aspirations are in tatters now with Manchester United thumping Newcastle 6 – 0 at Old Trafford although Arsenal were held to 1 – 1 draw with Birmingham at the Emirates Stadium.
