No it’s not an American street name, but Plymouth Argyle’s position in the championship and how many league games there are before the end of the season. I am quite hopeful of Argyle obtaining a play-off place as the Pilgrims traditionally have a strong end to the season although we have some tough games ahead. But that said the way we have been playing recently I don’t think we have anyone to fear in this league. But an interesting one will be the 22nd of this month when Watford return to Home Park for the first time since knocking us out of the FA cup this time last year and as they say, revenge is sweet! But first of all we need to beat struggling ex Premiership side Sheffield United who are languishing down in 17th place just one point ahead of Hollowords team. So if Plymouth win and Holloway’s Leicester win then we will be doing him a favour although I have nothing against Leicester or their fans, the majority of them have been great on the 606 forums. Plymouth are the form team winning five of their last six games while United have drawn two and lost four in the last six, but they could well be a wounded animal fighting for their lives in the second tier. So the Pilgrims will need to sharp to avoid conceding especially with our big Hungarian defender Krisztian Timar suspended for this tie for 10 yellow cards this season!
The only annoyance of the week that’s blogworthy was Alternation on Wednesday night. One person that is a regular on the night complained that we play the same music every week after we played one song she didn’t like. Before storming out she commented she could do a better job from her laptop in her bedroom. This is all second hand information as I was told about it by my co-DJ as she said this to him so I can’t be 100% sure of it’s truth, Chinese whispers n’all! But I find it amazing that one moment she was up dancing then suddenly storming out because we played “Shut Me Up” by Mindless Self Indulgence. Yes we do play it *most* weeks, but we DO get multiple requests for it. At the end of the day, it is a request club night, so we play what people attending requests even if *sometimes* we don’t like or want to play the songs requested, there are many songs that we are incredibly bored of hearing, but we still play them. This person tends to request the same songs and bands every week as well, so I find her comments highly hypocritical. As for putting a better club night on in her bedroom, well in her eyes that is probably true as she can play all the songs she wants to hear. But in the real world we have to please a room full of people so we play a wide variety of music from the alternative genres, it’s simply not possible to please all of the people, all of the time. I don’t really care but I find it amazing how hypocritical people can be in this city especially within the alternative “scene”, something I have no inclination to be part of. Let’s face it, most of the things we play at Alternation won’t be played at all at other rock nights. I know for a fact that a certain Friday rock night have started playing songs we were playing six months ago before they became more ‘mainstream’, we can’t be doing bad if the biggest rock night in Plymouth are playing songs we pioneered can we?
