That the Voodoo Lounge’s future is in serious doubt because of an owner that really has no clue of how to run a business. The rumour is that he is about to sell the live PA system and use the old fly-mounted club PA system that doesn’t even work properly and has no sub-bass speakers anymore. Now for the really stupid idea, he is supposedly talking about having DJ’s playing music downstairs at weekends, but not the sort of music that the regular clientele wouldn’t enjoy. And here is the really crazy thing, he is supposedly going to ban alternative clothing. Now the Voodoo Lounge has always been an alternative hangout even going back to the days of Charlies. Why change what has worked for years? that makes no sense whatsoever. I really don’t care too much any more as my future isn’t in Plymouth anyway, this trip has opened my eyes to the possibilities and I am going to take whatever I can get to advance my career, it certainly isn’t going to happen in the Voodoo Lounge with an owner that has no ambition to make it a better venue and market the venue to his target clientele, e.g. students and alternative crowd.
Some sports news from back home, Plymouth Argyle climb one place to 11th in the Championship and close to 3 points of a play-off place after rescuing a draw against Charlton at Home Park on Saturday. Mathias Doumbe gave Argyle the lead in the 37th minute heading Luke Summerfield’s corner kick past Nicky Weaver. Argyle looked comfortable holding onto that narrow lead until the the 85th minute. Charlton’s equaliser also came from a setpiece; Kelly Youga heading Nick Bailey’s corner kick past Romain Larrieu from 6 yards out. Charlton must have thought they’d claimed all three points when they took the lead in the 91st minute from the penalty spot after Rory Fallon hacked down Mark Hudson. But there was one remaining twist in the tale when last minute sub Emile Mpenza scored with his first touch of the game in the 94th minute to rescue a point from the Pilgrims. I do wonder why manager Paul Sturrock is reluctant to start Mpenza when the man clearly has what Argyle need to succeed in this lead. More importantly make him earn his money as Argyle are paying him club record wages.
Liverpool had a convincing win against newly promoted West Brom and all credit to West Brom for playing football instead of camping in the 18 yard box like Stoke City did a couple of months back. Robbie Keane broke his Premiership duck with two goals in a nine minute spell in the first half. West Brom never really looked like they had a chance of claiming any points from Anfield as the Reds dominated play throughout the game. Alvaro Arbeloa launched a curling effort in the dying moments to make sure of the result making it 3 – 0. Liverpool remain in 2nd place behind Chelsea on goal different after the London based team beat Blackburn 0 – 2 at Ewood Park on Sunday afternoon while fellow London team Arsenal beat Manchester United at the Emirates!
