Social networking sites make you very unsociable!

Really? wow there’s a surprise! I have said that many times over the years, lot’s of people, more specifically teenagers sit online and instant message, leave comments and send messages on Facebook, MySpace, BEBO, WAYN and all the other social networking sites. Many talk about going out and doing something but rarely follow through, electing to sit staring at a website instead of real interaction. Yes I do use social networking sites, mainly Facebook these days but I don’t spend my life on there, I use it to keep in contact with friends back home, usually signing in two or three times per day to check for messages and comments. The problem today is that there is far too much to do at home, hundreds of TV channels, DVD’s, video games, computers, internet, and really socialisation doesn’t exist for many youngsters these days. I actually know someone back home that says “LOL” instead of actually laughing! When I was young I was always outside riding my bike or playing football or some other sport, running around, generally having a good time with my mates. These days it seems that mates are virtual and I can see Conner already starting to go that way, being isolationist wanting to play video games all the time and every time he sees a computer he is mesmerised and we constantly have to tell him to leave our laptops alone. He even goes upto strangers asking to use their computers or hovers over them, same goes for video games, he saw some kid in the laundromat with a Nintendo DS and we had to tell him repeated to stop hovering as it’s highly annoying and eventually the little boy told him to go away and Conner got upset. We have been thinking about getting Conner his own laptop but I don’t want to promote his isolationism more, and I believe that he isn’t mature enough to have one yet. Not because of his ability to use it, he clearly knows his way around a computer which is amazing at four years of age but he also has started throwing his toys around so we rather not waste $300 on a laptop if he is going to throw it when he gets frustrated. Back to the point, are social networking sites creating a whole generation of zombies mesmerised by a computer screen? I believe the answer is a definite yes!

Have Liverpool conceded the Premiership title to Manchester United by drawing with United’ local rivals Manchester City at Anfield? Liverpool look a shadow of what they were earlier in the season, obviously they are missing Steven Gerrard in the middle and Fernando Torres hasn’t been anywhere near as prolific since coming back from injury. Liverpool are now seven points behind United in the Premiership, I think that will be too many points to make up as I seriously doubt that the Mancunians will drop that many points in the next 12 games. Now Liverpool also have the threat of Chelsea again after Guus Hiddink’s men narrowly beat Villa on Saturday.
