Allstar, Allstar, I can’t wait to to get there…

This weekend just past has been a good weekend in general. On Saturday we went to Allstar Adventures here in Wichita to give Conner a treat as he had been star of the week in school! We went on the go-karts, or stock carts as they have dubbed them. Conner wanted to drive but couldn’t reach the pedals. Not that we intended to let him drive, he’s four, that would be a recipe for disaster as these cars were reasonably fast. Conner loved the way I drive especially as I was racing with another father and son combination. Sadly we lost that race, their car seems to have a little more horsepower up the hills. OK I could have driven more aggressively defending my line but it was only a little bit of fun. Although drinking a huge Pepsi before starting out wasn’t so wise as we got pretty badly shaken around by the track and my sharper turning to keep our speed up shook things up a little more. Conner went on the junior stock carts on his own and did pretty well driving on his second attempt after he got the idea of going straight instead of sawing away at the wheel. Sunday was a more relaxed affair, a quiet lunch with Erin’s mother and grandmother followed by taking Conner out on his bike for an hour. We want to take him out of his bike more often but his bike lives at Erin’s mothers and that is across the other side of town in Bel Aire. So all in all a very pleasant weekend, it was nice to take Conner out to do something after being cooped up all winter long, he’s far too active to be stuck indoors that long!

It’s been a great week for Liverpool, firstly beating Real Madrid 4 – 0 in The Champions League then putting the cherry on top by beating Manchester United 1 – 4 at Old Trafford. Although things didn’t look so rosy after 23 minutes after Christiano Ronaldo gave United the lead from the penalty spot after Pepe Reina hauled down Ji-Sung Park and was lucky to escape a red card. Then five minutes later Fernando Torres forced a mistake from the United defence to calmly slot past Edwin van der Sar to regain parity. Steven Gerrard got on the scoresheet just before half time from the penalty spot after he was was tripped by United’s Patrick Evra. Nemanja Vidic who had been tormented by Torres all afternoon was sent off in the 76th minute after hauling down Gerrard while clear on goal, Fabio Aurelio unleashed a fierce 25 yard curler that left van der Sar wondering what happened from the resulting free kick. United’s misery was compounded in stoppage time when Andrea Dossena’s neat little lob defeated van der Sar for the fourth time. Liverpool close the gap to the top of the table to four points but United remain favourites to win the league, let’s hope that Ferguson’s men succumb to the pressure and Liverpool have a faultless run in as Rafa Benitez has demanded from his Liverpool side.

Argyle haven’t had a good week being beaten by Swansea on Tuesday and were beating again on Saturday by another single goal by Norwich. This poor week puts Plymouth back in the rat race again after a few good results the previous week. It seems to me that when Argyle lose a game, the squad lose faith in themselves and play like amateurs. Whether this is because of Sturrock’s lack of inspirational skills or simply poor team selection as many on the 606 boards have indicated. I don’t understand Sturrock’s mentality, he has gone on record as saying we aim to win three out of the remaining six. Why not aim to win all six games? What’s the point in playing for a draw or expecting to lose, if you don’t play positively, losing is the most likely outcome. Plymouth drop to 19th place and only one loss away from the relegation zone!
